Kehman: “Tannhauser” will not return to the repertoire of the Novosibirsk Theatre – OREANDA

Itar-NEWS. Opera “Tannhauser” forever left the repertoire of the Novosibirsk Theatre. This was stated by the new theater director Vladimir Kehman.

Head Theatre stressed return to the Novosibirsk Opera stage is impossible in any form. Kehman previously said that opera can remain in the repertoire, but only on condition that it will be a concert version of the production. He noted that the musical component of this work at a high level.

Performance opera “Tannhauser” was staged at the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre in December 2014. Action postponed it today: director Tannhauser, the plot plays, a film about “the lost years” of Christ, which he allegedly spent in the grotto of Venus. The situation around Novosibirsk’s opera “Tannhäuser” has caused a public outcry after the Metropolitan of Novosibirsk and Berdsk Tikhon said that opera is not used for its intended purpose ecclesiastical symbolism that disturbs believers.

29 March it became known that Boris Mezdrich sacked as director of the Novosibirsk Theatre, and was replaced by Vladimir Kehman, director of the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. On the same day it became known that Kehman removed from the repertoire scandalous opera “Tannhäuser” directed by Timothy Kuljabina. A few days later the prosecutor’s office of Novosibirsk recalled protests against decisions of the judges of the Central district of the closure of administrative cases against the director and theater director and producer of the opera “Tannhauser”.

After the scandal Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia Ella Pamfilova called overly sharp reaction of the Russian Orthodox Church in the opera “Tannhauser,” which was performed at the end of last year in the Novosibirsk Theatre of Operetta director Timothy Kulyabin . “I also have not seen this show, and I do not want to evaluate it, but I believe that no matter what the play was, it is the right of the artist and the viewer to come to him, or not to go to him and not to drive back minors,” – said the Ombudsman.
