– What happened on Tuesday?
– I started working on the show some time ago, and the fact that some letters appeared only now, several strange. Obviously, the cultural authorities of Pskov was not up to me – they were busy replacing the former artistic director Vasily Senin. Make a documentary play about the city on the basis of interviews with local residents was his idea.
– In modern Russian theater there are several examples of exploring the city with the help of the techniques of documentary theater. How do you work?
– We’ve been looking for a hero. I gave the actors a job – and went to the city to talk to people. They took a lot of interviews – who it turns out the story, someone not. Our actor Maxim Plekhanov once lucky – he met a man who became the central character of our play. This attendant of the city bath – a man discreet appearance, but the philosopher and poet, a very unconventional thinking person. He can hear snatches of conversation, followed by – the fate of people. Before it runs a gallery of characters – a prostitute, an employee of law enforcement agencies, sectarian, deaf janitor, the military … It is realistic characters, I note, without intent seamy side. These conversations and characters impel him to talk about love, friendship. He is a miracle and the spirit of this city.
– And with himself something happens?
– Oh, yes. One customer had beaten him. He inflames the conflict with the director baths, vulgar and scoundrel who wants the Charter territory baths swans from tires. He is fired, he commits a crime …
– How to respond to this material in the theater?
– very differently. Me on the run came one honored artist, and he yelled at me that I had insulted and “showed that he g …”, and called my performance “antiteatrom.” Another important person even told me “in good time” to get out of Moscow. I have a suspicion that some of the artists summoned to the office and sign a petition demanding Medinsky.
– But the actors you support?
– Our artists are divided into three parts. The first was directed against – but I do not force anyone to participate, only played by anyone. One of these disgruntled actresses told me that she “does not respect the environment,” from which I come. Well, I did not forcibly dragged into a spectacle. Others like setting, but they were forced to sign. The motivation for this, I somehow come, put and leave, and then they live and work. They can understand. And the third group – those that refused to sign the petition. Honor and praise, I am very grateful.
– You planned that your work will end the scandal?
– No! Look, staging technique verbatim done for half a century, it has long been not “new theater” as it seems to some. For me the main thing was convex, interesting, even romantic character who is there – and the stories that reveal to us the spirit of the city. Yes, there is a hard and tough humor language – but it’s only paint this genre productions, and not its main content. No scandal, no provocation, I, as you know, is not planned.
– you live and work in Moscow. You were ready for that in the province of morals and conservative audience?
– What do you mean, what province? In Pskov, there are smart, hungry for new experiences and contemporary theater audiences. I am sure that your audience will have the play.
– What are you going to do next?
– not going to surrender. Considering the possibility of going to court.
