MOSCOW, April 14 – RIA Novosti. American soul singer Percy Sledge died Tuesday at his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at the age of 73 after a long battle with cancer, reports BBC Broadcasting Corporation, with reference to the singer’s agent Steve Green.
“He was one of my first artists, he was an extraordinary man, this business is not often seen these people,” – said Greene.
The most famous song was the song artist Sledge When a Man Loves a Woman which in 1966 led the US national chart and is still actively broadcast on the radio. It is in the list of the greatest songs of all time. Rolling Stone magazine in 1988 has put the song in the list of ‘Top 100 singles last 25 years’.
Sledge was one of the greatest performers of music in the style of soul. In 2005 he was accepted into “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame”.
