WARSAW, October 10./TASS/. Polish Director Andrzej Wajda, died Sunday evening at the age of 90 years. This was reported by Polish TV channel TVN-24.
Andrzej Wajda was born on 6 March 1926 in suwałki. His father Jakub was an officer in the Polish army and was killed in Katyn. The family of Andrzej dreamed that his son also devoted himself to the service in the army, but he chose first the Academy of fine arts in kraków, and later of the Higher film school in Lodz. The first premiere of the young Director with the film “Generation” took place in 1955.
Wide recognition came to him after the film about the fate of the Warsaw uprising Kanal (1956), awarded with several prizes, including special prize at the Cannes film festival in 1957. Notable socio-political resonance, not only in Poland, called his films “Man of marble”, “Without anesthesia”, “man of iron” and “Danton”. In addition, Wajda put about 40 plays in different theatres, including “Demons” in Moscow “contemporary”.

At the end of 2010, Wade was awarded the order of Friendship for his great contribution to the development of Russian-Polish relations in the field of culture.
