Bolshoi Theater is closing its 239 th season of the world premiere of the ballet “The hero of our time”, the work of film director Kirill Serebrennikov, choreographer Yuri staff and composer Ilya Demutsky. Serebrennikov, for which the performance is the first experience in the creation of the ballet, wrote the libretto, as well as acted as a set designer and one of the costume designers.
Before the creators of the show, which premieres are held from 22 to 26 July, was not easy task – they had to make statement with a blank slate, because no one to date has not composed a ballet for this novel. Earlier, on the works of Lermontov on the stage of the opera staged only.

Composer Ilya Demutsky describes the music for the ballet as “a symphony in the classical style.” Inspired by the works of the classics, he created the score, which stand out operatic roles, logically supplement the visual component of the presentation, which was a definite novelty for ballet performances. In the first and third parts are presented vocal solo – for example, the muezzin singing or writing the Faith to Pechorin. Another interesting finding was the identification of each of the three characters with different musical instruments in “Bela” is a bass clarinet in “Taman” the cello, and the “Princess Mary” English horn.
