The Fifth International Film Festival “Land of Light” was opened on Sakhalin Island, on the red carpet have been the star of the Soviet and Russian cinema, according to the regional government.

Among the guests of the festival – Oia Ninidze Victoria Tolstoganova, Marina Yakovleva, Yuri Chernov, Natalya Varley, Anna Bol’shova Sergei Varchuk Natalia Bochkarev. Participants welcomed Russian Culture Minister Vladimir Medina. Address at the official opening ceremony of the festival read the General Producer Alexei Agranovich.

The first dramatic conflict “end of the world” happened a few days before. The delegation headed by the chairman of the jury – Iranian director Mohsen Makhmalbaf and general producer of the festival Alexei Agranovich flew to the Kuril island of Iturup, but was unable to return due to bad weather. Until the last hours before the opening of the situation remained unclear, and member of the jury, the star of the series “The Thaw” Anna Chipovskaya, earnestly preparing for the ceremony to take the rap alone. Additional difficulties with the return of travelers created by the fact that on August 21 the first day of the festival, in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk arrived Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, and the airport was closed. However, a miracle happened – a half hour before the ceremony, the delegation was able to return.

Acting Governor of the region Oleg Kozhemyako in his speech pointed out that the five years of the festival coincides with a number of important dates.

«It 70th anniversary of the Great Victory, the liberation of southern Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands. Therefore, the festival program includes many films of military subjects. Other significant date – the 155th anniversary of the great Russian writer Anton Chekhov, 125 years after his trip to Sakhalin “- quoted the press service of the government speech Kozhemyako.

After the ceremony was a demonstration of the first competitive film – Chinese painting “Nechzha”, which tells about the friendship of two books obsessed writer Mao Sanya schoolgirls.
There was also a full house, and after the session, the audience went into the tent Q & amp; A, to ask questions of the director Li Xiaofeng. As for the guests and participants of the “end of the world”, they waited at the check-out gala dinner, where it became clear how inspiring acts of Sakhalin’s involvement in the festival life. Unlike, say, the parties Sochi “Kinotavr” where the stars spend their evenings mostly separately from other public here felt unusual warmth and community. Before the stage, where were the local cover band, you can watch ecstatically dancing critics, Danila Kozlovsky and honorary president of the festival director Alla Surikov.

Finally, the next day there was another important event – the Museum of books by Anton Chekhov photo exhibition “I am here because” dedicated to the history of the island. A key part of the exhibition was the video installation – lasting four o’clock the story a hundred current island residents about how they got here. Away from these stories is almost impossible: sitting in a small room, you can easily spend an entire day. However, as long as the Moscow delegation is no such possibility: in the festival venues already in full go shows, each of which, even with a slight delay is difficult to find a free place.
