Merkel expressed solidarity with Turkey after the terrorist attack in Ankara – RIA Novosti

BERLIN, February 18 – RIA Novosti, Tatyana Firsova . German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday held a telephone conversation with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, the evening before Merkel spoke with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, spokesman of Germany Steffen Seibert government.

“The Chancellor has condemned the attack seriously and assured the Turkish prime minister and the president that Germany in solidarity with Turkey in the fight against terrorism”, – Seibert said in a statement, received by RIA Novosti.

Merkel asked Davutoglu and Erdogan to convey its condolences to the relatives of the victims, the wounded she wanted to quickly get better.

The explosion of a car bomb occurred in the evening on Wednesday at a busy intersection in the center of the Turkish capital close to the Parliament buildings, the General Staff and dormitories military. According to the Turkish General Staff, the explosion occurred at the moment when the red light stopped vehicle convoy transporting military personnel. 28 people were killed, including 27 soldiers, and 61 people had been wounded. Turkish Prime Minister blamed the attack on the forces of Syrian Kurds self-defense.
