Ukrainian authorities want to rename the Museum of Russian art in Kiev – RIA Novosti

KIEV, 8 Feb — RIA Novosti. power of the capital of Ukraine, want to return to the Kiev national Museum of Russian art historical name, rename it to the national Museum the “Kyiv art gallery”, as reported on the website of the Kiev city Council.

Earlier, the deputies of the Kyiv city Council has raised for consideration the issue of renaming of the Museum, proposing the deletion from the title, the phrase “Russian art”. The Museum opposed.

“Today at the meeting of permanent Commission of the Kyiv city Council on culture, tourism and information policy of the deputies agreed on the renaming… According to the draft decision of the Kiev national Museum of Russian art proposed to be renamed national Museum “Kyiv art gallery" (the official abbreviation – Kiev national art gallery)”, — stated in the message.

it is Noted that thus the authorities want to return to the Museum, the historical name.

“According to the law, the issue of changing the name of the institution within the competence of the founder of the Museum. The founder is the city Council, the decision on renaming can be made without taking into account the views of the workforce. But our Commission appealed to the labor collective of the meeting on this issue. It took place, but, unfortunately, constructive dialogue is not formed, the Museum has not announced specific proposals," — said the Chairman of the Commission on culture Victoria Fly.

the Corresponding decision will be considered at the plenary session of the city Council.

the Museum opened in 1922 under the name “Kiev art gallery”. The basis of the Museum Fund made up of the art collection of the Kyiv Industrialists and patrons Tereshchenko. Currently the collection includes more than 13 thousand works of art.
