Famous French actor Michel Galabru died at age 93 years – TASS

PARIS, January 4. / Correspondent. Ivan Batyrev TASS /. The famous French film and theater actor Michel Galabru resigned Monday from the life at the age of 93 years. This was reported by relatives of the artist, the agency AFP.

He died early on Monday morning. “He died in his sleep” – told family members Galabru.

Recently, the actor had big problems with health, seriously worrying the recent death of his wife and brother. Because of this, I was forced to completely abandon the theatrical performances that continued despite his advanced age.

Michel Galabru was born in 1922 in the French Morocco. Acting career began in 1950, he joined the troupe of the oldest Paris theater Comedie Francaise. On its stage, he spent seven years, playing many roles in classical plays by Shakespeare and Moliere, and in productions of contemporary authors.

However, the true national glory Galabru brought the role of Sergeant Zherbera in a series of films about the gendarme of September -Trope, the first of which went into wide release in 1964 (Le Gendarme de Saint-Tropez). In this most popular comedy he played a major role, along with Louis de Funes.

During his career Michel Galabru played dozens of roles in theater and cinema. In 1977 he was awarded the highest French film awards – the prize “Cesar” – for the main role in the crime drama Bernard Tavarne “judge and murderer” (Le Juge et l’Assassin, 1976).

In 2008, 85-year-old beloved by several generations of French viewers Galabru received his first award “Moliere”, which is awarded to France for the dramatics. Awards he has received for his role in the play Daniel Cola “Socks, opus 124″ (Les Chaussettes-opus 124). And in 2013, Michel Galabru was elevated to the degree of Grand Officer of the French National Order “For Merit”.
