The Nobel committee issued a Document , which listed the candidates for the Nobel Prize in 1965, which eventually got the Soviet writer Mikhail Sholokhov.
Among the 90 applicants have Russian names – Anna Akhmatova, Vladimir Nabokov and Paustovsky. According to The Guardian , the committee discussed the possibility to divide the prize between Sholokhov and Ahmatovyoy, but the head of the committee Anders Esterling rejected the idea because “these writers have nothing in common, except for the language.”
The list of contenders has a number of authors who have won the award later: Miguel Angel Asturias, Samuel Beckett, Heinrich Boll, Yasunari Kawabata, Pablo Neruda and Eyvind Johnson.
At the same time, list, there are a number of other well-known authors who have not been awarded the prize, such as Theodor Adorno, Louis Aragon, Jorge Luis Borges, Friedrich Dürrenmatt, Alejo Carpentier, Henri Malraux, Yukio Mishima, Alberto Moravia, Winston Oden, Ezra Pound, Henry Troyat, Thornton Wilder, Max Frisch and Marguerite Yourcenar.
