Kicks off Sakhalin IV International Film Festival “Edge of the World” – Channel Culture

 In Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Sakhalin today opens IV International Film Festival “Edge of the World.” Parade will last until August 29, and will give viewers the opportunity to see on the big screen more than 100 domestic and foreign films, as well as take part in master classes with famous directors and writers.

 The jury will be headed by the show famous film director Vadim Abdrashitov. Together with it the fate of the Grand Prix of the festival will determine the chief editor of the TV channel “Russia By” Sergei Shumakov, theater director and actor Sergei Puskepalis, art director of the International Film Festival “Eurasia” Gulnara Abikeeva from Kazakhstan, Indian film director and screenwriter Amit Kumar. Also at the festival will be awarded prizes for best director, best male and female roles, Honorary President of the festival prize Alla Surikov and Audience Award “Inhabited Island”.

 The competition this year’s program includes 11 films. Among them are works by filmmakers from Thailand, Georgia, Japan, Kazakhstan, as well as five Russian films. Audiences can expect an extensive competition program, consisting of the classics of world cinema, the legendary musical films, children’s animation and several premieres. Cinema Fans will see the first tape Alla Surikovoj “Full steam ahead” and the work of Alexander Strizhenov “Grandfather of my dreams”.

 The Festival opens with a picture of “Another Year”, filmed a native of Sakhalin Oksana Bychkova. Closing film will be directed by Mizuho Japanese cartoon Nisikubo “Island Giovanni”.

 The main venue of the show was the Sakhalin international theater center named AP Chekhov.
