Russia will continue to seek the adoption of Security Council resolution on Terrorism – Interfax

Moscow. November 21. INTERFAX.RU – Russia will continue to work on making it in the UN Security Council resolution on the fight against terrorism, said Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin.

“attempts by some members of the Council to block the work of our project is considered politically shortsighted. You can not with one hand to deal with the terrorists, and the other actually play along with them, guided by opportunistic considerations. The active work on the harmonization of our project, we intend to continue with a view to its early adoption “, – Churkin said at a meeting of the UN Security Council.

As the observers, the reason for the refusal of members of the UN Security Council from adopting Russian resolution is that it contains a provision on the need to coordinate anti-terrorist operations with the countries in which they are held. For example, Russia carries out an operation in Syria at the request of and in coordination with the Syrian leadership.

The reasons for the failure of the Russian version of the resolution stated, inter alia, permanent representative of Great Britain at the world body, Matthew Rycroft, who said that further approval of the proposed Russian project would be possible, provided that from it will be removed references to the role of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the fight against the terrorists in Syria.

“Russia has to decide itself whether it will return to its resolution. If it intends to act so, then settle the differences in the draft should be amended, relating to the role of Assad in Syria, “- said the British diplomat.

According to reports, the Security Council adopted a resolution prepared by France, which calls on all countries to redouble efforts to prevent and suppress terrorist activities of extremist groups, as well as suppress the financing of terrorism.
