«Completion of the restoration of historic facades was the first stage of realization of the Concept of development of the Museum until 2020. It was stated that in 2020 the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia should become a modern multi-functional museum complex. We have an outdoor historical lectures, which are the leading scholars and teachers of Russian universities. She recalled that a year ago, the museum, located in the heart of the capital, on Tverskaya Street, a monument of culture and history of the late XVIII – early XIX centuries was shabby facades, stucco fell off, the roof leaks, and the famous lions the gate is almost lost the historical appearance. “During the time of repair and restoration work, from May this year, has been restored and the historical appearance of the facade of the main building of the fence, the complex of works on the replacement and repair of the roof attic and basement, installed new oak doors” – listed Velikanova. In addition to the restoration of the facades, fences and roofs it was carried out full-scale restoration of the famous figures of lions that adorn the gates of the Museum. The restorers had to do a great job for the return of the historic appearance of the lions, since decontamination and removal of multiple chips, finishing the restoration of the lost fragments of sculpture. “This is the first complete restoration of the entire two centuries sculptures, mention AS Pushkin’s novel “Eugene Onegin” – said the director of the museum. Velikanova also stressed that the restoration works “as an example occurs when the federal center and the subject of working together to the preservation of cultural and historical heritage of the object.”
Especially the end of the restoration work has prepared a new lighting buildings and figures of lions that were not previously covered. The public holidays column Museum of Contemporary History of Russia will decorate lights in the colors of the national flag.
The next year, is scheduled to begin restoration of the interior, on the basis of which the Museum is to increase the area available for visitors to public spaces (including by reducing the administrative areas), improve the functionality of the entrance area, which should also become more comfortable and open part of the exhibition devoted to the contemporary history of Russia until 2014.
