About his father, “RG” said director Andrew Eshpay:

– My father was a genius composer. He wrote music to 4 years, and we have preserved programm “Andrew Eshpay Slava Rostropovich and represent …”. His infinite love Elena Gnessin.

During the war, he was 20-year-old lieutenant, scout watched in Berlin for General Krebs. He was the winner of various festivals, received a lot of awards and wrote music. It’s amazing, he wrote symphonic music, which is performed by Valery Gergiev, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Yevgeny Svetlanov, and popular songs and film music. His music was played all over the world. The last prime minister – his Fifth Symphony – was in Germany.

It celebrated its 90th anniversary, and the life was full of events and new plans. His death was a complete surprise for us. He even made a will not, because it is very fond of life, faith in the people and their country. My father was very special, it has never been self-admiration, but he was able in a special way to feel happiness and love. It is heard in the tone of his music. He has an essay – a string quartet number 8 on Shostakovich “Concordia discordans” – harmony inconsonant. In this he was – in inconsonant he finds his world harmony.

I am very sad that he was leaving the era of large-scale, strong people. Before leaving, they take away with them this era, and we did not quite live up to their size.
