“Museum Night” and “Night at the Museum” – an annual event dedicated to the International Museum Day on May 18, which is held in 42 countries in Europe.
In 2015, the event will take place on the night of 16 May 17 .
Back in the 1970s in Europe in May museum opens its doors for free entry, and when the visitors did not have time to explore the exhibition, extended time. Then this event called “Spring of Museums”.
In 1997, in Berlin (Germany) took the first official action, known in history as the “Long Night of Museums” (Lange Nacht der Museen). Administration of the city of Berlin has decided on this day to let visitors to the museums is free, and tours are offered throughout the night. The idea was a great success and next year the action was joined by 20 German cities.
The history of the museum night celebrations to mark the International Day of Museums in Europe started in 2001 in Paris and has gained popularity in all the major European capitals.
