Renaming cities in Ukraine can be put to a referendum – BBC

Deputy Prime Minister Vyacheslav Kyrylenko said that the issue of renaming Ukrainian cities due to the laws of the country decommunisation can be put to a referendum, according to «112 Ukraine» .

« The law stipulates that it is the right of local communities, they will discuss it when renaming cities, it is obvious to be referendums, “- he said.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko May 15 signed a law on decommunisation Ukraine, which in particular, provides for a ban Soviet symbols and condemned the communist and Nazi regimes.

Previous reported that the ban communist symbols can lead to the renaming of streets and cities in Ukraine.
