Yesterday, May 2, died of ballet legend Maya Plisetskaya. Great dancer died of a heart attack at a clinic in Germany. Few know that in 1941-1942 the future of the Bolshoi Theatre prima lived in evacuation in Sverdlovsk and the whole year was not able to stand at the machine.
Plisetskaya and her family was in Sverdlovsk, because of rumors that the evacuated here Bolshoi Theatre and the ballet school, where she was Maya.
– We managed to leave Moscow in late September, well in advance – at the expense of those days – before the panic October 17, 1941, when the Germans had come close to Moscow. And traveling by train, and habitation in Sverdlovsk were solid ordeals. But the whole country suffered, and I do not complain – recalls the great ballerina in her book “I, Maya Plisetskaya”.
Rachel Messerer-Plisetskaya with Maya and her two brothers were placed in a close three-room apartment Engineer Paducheva . Besides them there huddled ten people. Despite domestic difficulties households lived in harmony and how could support each other.
Mother Plisetskaya with great difficulty managed to find a job – she got the registrar to the clinic. Maya lifelong remembered as the mother of his wooden unpainted registrar gave her little window “strategic” command, in which queue to get up and pass a ration card should be “otovarit».
– the queues were for everyone. Without exception. People were standing, standing, standing, time off to get away for a short while, they returned again stood gossiping, complaints, anxious to roll call. Writing numbers on the hands, slobbering indelible pencil stub. Wash the figure could not weeks. What’s that, and made an indelible pencil wonderfully pungent. The numbers of different queues confused on the palm – what yesterday, what the present-day, – says Maya Plisetskaya in her autobiography.
One of these queues Maya remembered especially. One hot summer of days in the yard of the Sverdlovsk grocery store brought boxes of apples. The fruits were inferior – Early, small, crooked. But apples in Sverdlovsk not seen since the beginning of the war, so for them there and then all lined up many kilometers. Maya managed to get to the beginning, but the apples she would not get it – finished.
– Never again in my life I did not want to eat an apple. What have not I had seen then delicious varieties. But the Sverdlovsk, “military” apples I can not forget, – says in his book Maya Plisetskaya.
But not only queue waiting young Plisetskaya military Sverdlovsk. Maya, that a whole year could not do what ballet averted soul in theaters. She attended the local opera and ballet theater (productions of Maya remembered Opera Giacomo Meyerbeer’s “Les Huguenots” and the rare Soviet ballet composer Boris Asafiev “Shulamith”) and Sverdlovsk operetta, which subsequently withdrawn, as the best in the Soviet Union. The operetta Maya captivated kalmanovsky repertoire – “Silva”, “Maritsa» …
– You ask how I got into theater. Again, all downcast and – the cheapest ticket to the gallery. And the tickets were incredibly cheap. And until very recently, the ticket in the first row of the orchestra of the Bolshoi Theatre was worth only 3 rubles 50 kopecks. This is despite the fact that a kilo of tomatoes on the same days on the market – 10-15 rubles. So choose. Eat a salad of tomato market – or four times to go to the Great. In Sverdlovsk I chose spiritual food – recognized dancer in his book “I, Maya Plisetskaya”.
Plisetskaya lived in Sverdlovsk for a year and suffered a great deal. Maya knew: another year without classes and ballet have to say goodbye.
– Big evacuated to Kuibyshev, and the ballet school in a small town on the Volga Vasilsursk. This cost me an unexpected bobble at exorbitant prices, – says Maya Mikhailovna.
When Plisetskaya learned that part of the students remained in the capital, and activities at the school continues, it zasobiralas to Moscow. She risked everything, because she did not have a special permit, and she went to the capital illegally. Maya miraculously managed to get a ticket on the train (to help chess Rokhlin, the husband of the ballerina Valentina Lopukhina) and go unnoticed.
– The whole way I decide whether to get off to Moscow at the last stop and then walk? Or to play for broke – crowds in the station soon to slip? Again, entry permits to Moscow I did not have. I decided to take a chance. And he won. Attach to the lame old man and take up his bag, which he heartily rejoiced played up to me with all sincerity, I slipped through a military patrol at the door station. The role of a handicapped teenager under the old me was a success, – Plisetskaya wrote in his autobiography.
On this trip from Sverdlovsk to Moscow, which lasted five days, began stellar career of the great ballerina. By the way, in many encyclopedias and reference books it reported that it was in Sverdlovsk Maya Plisetskaya first danced the famous “Dying Swan”. But the dancer in his autobiography does not mention a word about it. Plisetskaya says that the first “encores” for “swan” she received in Moscow, when he worked in the corps de ballet of the Bolshoi Theater
– In order not to forget how to dance, I began to take a lot of concerts and “obtantsevala” all concert and club scene in Moscow. And the audience was great. Poorly dressed, “merchandised” evshaya rationed, nedoumytaya, but eager for the slightest manifestation of art that came with poor homebrew scene. In these concerts, and I had my first “encores” Swan – told the legend of world ballet.
