Russia celebrates the main state holiday – the Day of Victory in the Great Patriotic War – First Channel

This year is very special date: was exactly 70 years after Nazi Germany signed the act of unconditional surrender. In our country, the Victory Day – a holiday that applies to all. Every family knows firsthand about the Great Patriotic War. This year promises to be the biggest. The central event of the celebration of Victory Day today will, of course, the parade on Red Square in Moscow.

The central event of the celebration of Victory Day today will, of course, the parade on Red Square in Moscow.

In Moscow for the celebrations in honor of the 70th anniversary of Victory was attended by numerous guests from abroad. The Heads of State and Government, heads of international organizations, the delegation of war veterans came to us, to 9 May to pay tribute to the country that saved the world from fascism.

All the last few days on the eve of the anniversary – Capital Airport Vnukovo worked with the increased load, taking one after another, special flights from different parts of the planet.

In Moscow, came about 30 foreign leaders. Among them, Chinese President, the head of India, Mongolia, Venezuela, Vietnam, Cuba, Czech Republic, South Africa, the Palestinian leader, the presidents of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan.

The ceremony will be attended by official delegations of Turkmenistan, Slovakia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Cyprus, Zimbabwe, Mongolia, Palestine, South Ossetia and Abkhazia, among the guests – UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova.

This is not a complete list of guests. In addition to top officials at the festivities today will present a large number of foreign diplomats. Countries whose leaders are due to the international situation or for other reasons did not come to Moscow to send their special representatives. So, in the celebrations will be attended by several foreign ministers, including Italy, France, the Principality of Monaco. A number of states are ambassadors, in particular, heads of diplomatic missions of a number of Western countries, Australia, Mexico, Turkey, Canada and the United States. All are invited to the parade and an appointment with the President of Russia. From Germany to take part in today’s celebration will also ambassador in Moscow Rüdiger von Fritsch. Chancellor Angela Merkel will arrive in the Russian capital tomorrow: it is expected to hold talks with Vladimir Putin, and together with the Russian leader will lay a wreath at the Eternal Flame at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

The Russian leadership, as noted previously the head of our Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, comfortable with the fact that some countries will be represented at the celebrations at the ambassadorial level, or not represented at all, according to Lavrov, May 9, this is a great holiday, first of all, our people. And here it should be said that some of the distinguished guests will not be limited only in Moscow under the Protocol. For example, the Czech President Milos Zeman, who arrived in Moscow, despite pressure from the European and American politicians, brought with him a delegation of veterans who during the war with the Red Army fighters resisted the Nazis. Himself Zeman said that, while in the Russian capital, wants to pay tribute not only to soldiers who died during the liberation of Czechoslovakia, but also for all the tens of millions of Soviet people who gave their lives in the name of Victory.

Another foreign leader, whose program will be different from the total, will be President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev. It is in the course of his visit to Russia – has already visited Volokolamsk near Moscow, where together with veteran countrymen opened a monument to one of the 28 Panfilov Heroes, Hero of the Soviet Union Duishenkul Shopokova.

Today, in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Victory will be and unusual guests such as from the UK to the celebration came to Moscow Member of Parliament for the Conservative Party, Sir Nicholas Soames – grandson of Winston Churchill, who led during the war the British government. Soames said that he was honored to represent the United Kingdom on this anniversary. Recalling the words of his famous grandfather of the huge contribution of the USSR in the defeat of the Nazis, the British MP said he was happy to personally be in Moscow and to pay tribute to the fallen.
