In Yekaterinburg launched Industrial Biennale of Contemporary Art – Culture Channel

 Third Industrial Biennale of Contemporary Art was opened in Ekaterinburg. Its main theme – “Mobilization as the ability to change, the transition to a qualitatively new level.” The main project, which is dedicated to current trends of contemporary art, participating artists and groups from 21 countries. At the time of the Biennale in the exhibition halls and platforms for performances turned typography, several plants, as well as a hotel, a recognized monument of Constructivism.

The hotel – contemporary art everywhere. Art objects dozen artists in crowded rooms, hallways and even on the windowsill. This year the Ural Industrial Biennale has made a U-turn to the East. The main project, located on the ninth floor of the hotel – was divided between the two curators from China. Considerable attention they paid to study of Yekaterinburg and its features.

 “I want us to discover the meaning of his stay in Yekaterinburg. From the beginning, I set one rule – there can be no material brought back from abroad. They must use local materials in conjunction with this monument of Constructivism “, – says the curator of the main project of the Third Ural Industrial Biennale of Contemporary Art, the artist Lee Chzhenhu.

 The hotel was the starting point for the second curator – Biljana Ciric, more than 10 years living in China. In the exhibition space she turned reception desk, a conference room and a restaurant.

«My exhibition presents both artists from the East and the creators of the so-called West and considers art system outside the framework of capitalism. My project deals with themes such as ideology, with the concepts of participation, involvement, issues of collective and individual, “- says the curator of the main project of the Third Ural Industrial Biennale of Contemporary Art Biljana Ciric.

 On the second floor you can see the project of the artist Yoko Ono “Touch.” Before Urals Biennale exhibited her work in Russia only twice. All in all, the main project involves 60 artists from 21 countries.

 Biennale also includes a program of art residences – is exposure in the factories of the Urals, three special projects, symposiums, performances and more than 50 concurrent exhibitions. One of the objectives – to draw attention to the monuments of constructivism. Organizers say – in December, UNESCO will put the issue on the inclusion complex of constructivist buildings of Yekaterinburg in the list of cultural heritage.
