The construction of the museum complex near the Solovetsky monastery suspended. The agency “Interfax” According to the press service of the Ministry of Culture.

The representative of the Ministry said that at the end of September, the Ministry will receive the report of the mission of international experts on the future of the complex.

Earlier media reported that UNESCO has demanded from the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation to suspend the construction of the museum complex near the Solovetsky monastery.

A new building for the museum began in 2013. Then, a number of members of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation requested the suspension of the building permit.

According to the authors of the letter, the new facility “will enter the competition with an undue visual monastery distort the historical panorama of the architectural ensemble of the Holy Lake”.

The Solovetsky Monastery was founded in the archipelago in the White Sea in the second quarter of the XV century, gradually formed the architectural appearance of the monastery. Its dominant feature is survived the two cathedrals – Assumption and Transfiguration, well preserved Church of the Annunciation, and Mykolayiv Trinity church, the stone chamber and watermill early XVII century. Solovetsky Museum-Reserve appeared there in the late 1960s and continued to exist after the resumption of monastic life. In 1992, all Solovki historical and cultural complex was classified as World Heritage by UNESCO.
