Lemmy Kilmister Died – BBC

In April, the outgoing year Motörhead canceled performance at the Monsters of Rock festival in Brazil due to the fact that the group’s leader, 69-year-old Lemmy Kilmister, suffered from stomach problems and dehydration. It was not the first cancellation of the concert in recent years and are not the first difficulty with health, but each time Lemmy calmly coped with them on leaving the hospital gave dozens of interviews that remain immortal and even began again (or quit) smoking . December 24 Kilmister celebrated his 70th birthday and 26 December, as reported in the official account Motörhead to Facebook, I learned that he had cancer in the terminal stage. On the night of December 29, Lemmy died in his Los Angeles apartment.

The released five years ago the documentary “Lemmy” is impressive pieces of short interviews with fans of Motörhead. One of them says that

after the nuclear war survivors will only cockroaches and Lemmy.

In order to understand what these words share a joke, it was a glance at Kilmister, the sound of his voice, or ever overloaded bass. To this day in rock ‘n’ roll of people had two – he and Keith Richards. But if The Rolling Stones guitarist was and remains the epitome of the incredible human vitality, the Lemmy always gave the impression of a person, which is the bad luck guaranteed teeth broken off.

So it is, in general, and there his whole life. Raised by his mother and stepfather, a young man from the province of British Ian Fraser Kilmister has worked as manager of Jimi Hendrix, he was replaced by a plurality of groups, cities, and women, while in 1971, did not join the Space-rockers Hawkwind. In 1975 Lemmy (his nickname since high school) was detained at customs for transportation of banned substances, and when he came out, it was found that the group had gone on without him, and he was sacked, despite the fact that it was thanks to him, it was composed most successful the history of collective epic «Silver Machine».

Without thinking, Kilmister decided to gather a group called «Bastard» («Bastard”), but eventually settled on the word «Motörhead» – so was called the last song he wrote as part of Hawkwind.

Lemmy immediately headed for a quick, hard and heavy rock ‘n’ roll, and initially Motörhead not to pursue fame – a triumph came only the fifth album «Ace of Spades», which was released in 1980 and was recorded by gold composition of the group. It is not fundamentally different from the previous work, but it was by this time the musicians have reached the maximum teamwork, and Lemmy brought to absolute his consistently effective style: driving bass, sand growl rude humor and furious drive.

Since then, about Motörhead say in the sense that the old horses furrow not spoil, but only strengthened.

There were changes guitarists and drummers, but it was clear that Motörhead – is, above all, a solid sullen figure in a cowboy hat at the microphone, and the song that any self-respecting music fan recognizable at first impatiently humming chords. About how much Lemmy smokes, drinks and drink, were legendary throughout his life, and yet he remained some incredible embodiment of rock ‘n’ roll stoicism. Titan, a dinosaur, a man who has seen everything and now with a clear conscience can on that crooked grin and hoarse. But best of all it was formulated by him in the motto of the group: «Born to lose, live to win».

As a last will, then it is published in the same official facebook group: “Please, turn louder Motörhead, Hawkwind, Lemmy make the music louder. Drink. Enjoy life in honor of the remarkable man who knew how to enjoy it as anyone. He’d have wanted it this ».
