Actress Darya Ursulyak of the series “The Quiet Don” and his heroine Natalia Melekhova – BBC

The film of Sergei Ursulyak “Quiet Flows the Don” – a new film adaptation of the novel by Mikhail Sholokhov on the Don Cossacks during the First World and the Civil War – showed a very good TV ratings: the premiere of the first three series, which took place on the channel “Russia 1″ on Sunday, 29 November watched 20% of all Russian television viewers over 18 years. Gregory Melehova role in the series played Yevgeny Tkachuk (“Winter Journey,” “Possessed” by Vladimir Hotinenko) Axinya – debutante Pauline Chernyshov. “Times” spoke with the actress of theater “Satyricon” Daria Ursulyak, who played in the film Natalia, the legitimate wife of Gregory, the terms of the success of “Quiet Flows the Don” and the work on the painting.

– Quiet Don became one of the most popular TV series of the year. Did you expect that viewers will want to watch again told by Sholokhov and three screen adaptation story?

– I personally do not think about it, I had my role, and this was no time to think. And when we finished, it was understood that the reaction to the film may be different. But the audience is very pleasantly surprised.

– Why did it happen in your opinion?

– Most likely, this is due to the very Sholokhov and that it is a very clean, simple, carnal, human history. “And Quiet Flows the Don” even, perhaps, a serial story. Novel serious and not pales in comparison with what is now shown. This story should keep the audience emotionally. But that’s all theory, a special magic, and where it comes from – no one knows.

– Have you watched the previous film adaptation of “Quiet Flows the Don»?

– Yes, watching movies and Sergei Gerasimov and Sergei Bondarchuk.

– You have got to find these films have something in common in the way of your character?

– I was not looking! On the contrary – I understand that the overall look is impossible, you need to create something of their own, unrelated to the previous screen adaptations. Moreover, I will not undertake to compare their work with the way played great Zinaida Kiriyenko and Alyona Bondarchuk.

– How are you treated the way Natalia before filming, were you able to do everything that you are thinking?

– I tried to play well Natalia as it seemed to me the best. And as I think of how it would like to see the director. That is the most sincere. But she should not be stressed or suffer feeling sorry for yourself. I would like to Natalia was a strong heroine who is asking and struggling. To her it was a pity not because she complains, but because a good man there is something unfair.

– you like Gregory Melekhov by Eugene Tkachuk?

– Zhenya, in my opinion, is one of the major victories of the film. It is a wonderful partner, and I think that the film adaptation would not happen if it Sergei Ursulyak met.

– During filming, you have lived in the village for almost a year. As far as the life of the modern Cossacks similar to the one described by Sholokhov?

– I still have not lived the life of Sholokhov Cossack, but a hundred years Veshenskaya changed. There are almost no houses, where was the old way, while someone is trying to save it. In the village you can see, it’s been a hundred years. But the people living there are wonderful, they cherish their identity.

– Filming on the show do not interfere with your work in “Satyricon” and Vakhtangov Theater?

– No , do not interfere. Had almost every day to go or to fly back and forth, but nothing has affected neither the theater nor the cinema.

– And you personally, which is closer, the theater or the movies?

– I’m more man of the theater, I love theater, I graduated from drama school and wanted above all to work in the theater. But work on the “Quiet Don” was very similar to theater rehearsals. Movies should be fast, functional, technically – it all on the set, of course, but it was a miracle that takes place between people on the stage.

– Now you have job offers in the movie there?

– The proposals are, but whether it will turn out that something – we will see. I belong to this easily. As long as I’m playing at the theater: recently in “Satyricon” released premiere based on the novel by Ivan Shmelev “The man from the restaurant,” in which I play a little in comparison with the hero Konstantin Raikin, but interesting role.
