Requiem for Rostislav Yankovsky will be held in Minsk on June 28 – Russian Newspaper

People’s Artist of the USSR, the Russian theater actor Rostislav Yankovsky, the elder brother Oleg Yankovsky died in Minsk on 87 th year of life. This was announced on Facebook Belarusian screenwriter, playwright Andrew Kureichik.

Rostislav Yankovsky was born in Odessa in the family of hereditary nobleman, the former captain of the Life Guards Semenov regiment, born Jankowski has Belarusian and Polish roots.. In the thirties, my father was arrested, was arrested twice. After his return from the torture chambers, the family moved from Odessa to Rybinsk. During the war, we lived in Zhezkazgan, Kazakhstan, and then in Leninabad – to Tajikistan. There’s father worked on the construction.

While still in school, Rostislav started in the circle of amateur, where he played comedic roles. As a teenager, began boxing, soon won the title of Champion of Tajikistan among young men.

After school, got married, and settled down on the dispatcher carpool in Leninabad, while continuing to participate in the initiative. One of the leaders of the local drama theater noticed a talented young man in the speech in the House of Culture, she began to drum up work for him in the theater. Initially Jankowski refused, citing a lack of education, but the head did not lag behind, eventually persuading.

In the late fifties Jankowski with his wife Nina and son Igor (later also became an actor) moved to Minsk, where he was admitted to the State Russian Drama theater of the Belarusian SSR Gorky, where he served until the end of life, having played there for more than a hundred roles: Shakespeare, Gorky, Lermontov, Sholokhov.

In the movie actor made his debut in 1958 – on “BelarusFilm” drama Vladimir Korsch-Sablin “Red Leaves” (Clara Lucko and Mikhail Zharov). Followed by “There were two comrades”, “Waterloo” Bondarchuk, “Earth, on demand,” “Dirk,” “State Border” and a number of “new Russian” paintings – “A friend of the deceased,” two parts “Loving in Russian” ( where he played Yarashevich), “Ghost” Nikita Vysotsky, “State Councillor” Philip Jankowski. All in all Rostislav about fifty ribbons.

In addition to his younger brother, Oleg, who died at the age of 65 from pancreatic cancer in 2009, at Rostislav was the middle brother, Nicholas Jankowski, Honored Worker of Culture of the RSFSR, led the youth Theatre in Saratov. Nikolai Yankovsky died last year.

A memorial service for Rostislav Yankovsky will be held at the National Academic Drama Theater named after Gorky in Minsk on Tuesday, June 28.
