the Dispute between Moscow and Kiev about the affiliation of the collection of Scythian gold arose after the referendum held on 16 March 2014, Crimea was annexed to Russia.

In mid-December 2016 the District court of Amsterdam ruled that the collection must be transferred to Kiev. According to the court, the Crimea could not declare the gold for its cultural heritage, because it is not a sovereign state. So make the decision, who owns the gold — the National Museum of history of Ukraine and the Crimean museums, had a Ukrainian court, considered in the District court of Amsterdam.

the Court also obliged Ukraine to pay €111 thousand to compensate for temporary storage of Scythian gold in the Museum in Amsterdam. Another €2.8 thousand have to pay the Crimean museums to offset the costs.

the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko welcomed the decision of the Dutch court with the words “Crimea is ours”. According to him, the court order showed that Ukrainian is not only a collection of gold, but also the Peninsula.

In turn, the Minister of culture of Russia Vladimir Medinsky said that the decision of the Netherlands “unprecedented” and said that the transfer of Scythian gold Ukraine will be “kidnapping”.

At the same time, the press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, answering the question about whether the head of state to take this question under control and to speak on this occasion, said that this is not “question the President” and the topic dealt with by the Russian authorities.
