Clint Eastwood: The war was the aim of a sniper Chris Kyle – Russian newspaper

The film “American Sniper”, presented in six categories at the “Oscar” and received one award – for the sound in cinemas in Russia on March 5 goes by the shorter name “Sniper”. The film’s director – Clint Eastwood. Why would he? Because Chris Kyle – a real sniper, soldier, legend, of which the book is written (by her, in fact, filmed) – said that only Clint Eastwood would trust such work – to shoot a movie about him. Producer and lead actor in the movie – Bradley Cooper.

After the American Premiere Bradley Cooper and Clint Eastwood answered questions from the audience first. In the “RG”, we give answers Clint Eastwood.

Clint Eastwood: When the representatives of the studio called me and asked if I was interested to do this project, I worked on the other picture. But I started reading the book “American Sniper”. I was interested in both the book and its hero, so when I got a call back from the studio, I said, “Let me finish the following 30 pages, and I’ll call you.” It was an interesting, ironic, a good story. And I asked the script for review. Then I called Bradley Cooper, we met, and it was the last straw – I agreed.

When you started working on the film, then met with the family and Chris Kyle and his wife Teey. What gave you the experience with them? What did you learn new except what has already been learned from the book?

Clint Eastwood: A lot more information and impressions than from books, we received from the weekend, which had in Texas with Teey, and Chris and children, as well – parents and brother. The material is quite heavy, because the next day was just the anniversary of the assassination of Chris. Thay was not in very good condition – that goes without saying. She needed support, and we took it quite frank conversation in the car when we went back. After him, she came to herself.

crucial moment was the casting. When we held it, it was difficult to find one who would play Thay, because we needed not just an imitation of the heroine, but that the game has been saved actress wife sniper spirit that managed to Sienna Miller. She came in, read a piece of the script and quickly went to work. I was amazed when I learned that she is also a Briton – so her American accent.

Was it important for you to move on the screen reliable information about the story, about the real lives of these people?

Clint Eastwood: In fact, much of what is in the movie, did not occur. But those people who have been in contact with us – friends, friends, those who have been at war with Chris, tell us what could well happen. There were other things that we filmed separately and inserted into the film. But we finished painting on the fact that it seemed more realistic, and that certainly would have liked Chris.

Do you think that Chris managed that forced him to go to war?

Clint Eastwood: He liked to take care of people, to be a leader and to feel needed. I think he knew it – his vocation. He worked hard to be a good soldier and a good shot. And he had to work hard enough, because the soldiers must be strong not only physically, but also spiritually. He went through four trips to the war, and after each of them could return to his family and to say that he did everything he could. But he felt that he had to go back to Iraq because he lost his friends, and he wanted revenge. In addition, he felt that Americans must complete the mission in Iraq.

How to War is changing our lives? As she reflected on the main character?

Clint Eastwood: It was like in the sport, and the war was his goal. War veterans began to talk with him in the same language. Among these men were not civilians, some of them have lost arms and legs, and he helped them, in spite of their own psychological difficulties. Finals history appeared sad, because, as the saying goes, “no good deed goes unpunished.” But Chris tried my best, and strive to be better than helping people.

There’s a scene where Chris meets with marine snipers. All of whom he helped, in real life it contains. Bradley Cooper and I sat down and talked with these guys. We started a conversation with someone who these guys are, what they feel, what they think about the case and about the war in general. We got a very different point of view from a completely different people. But I do not think any of them regretted it. Quite the contrary.

How do you deal with Bradley Cooper?

Clint Eastwood: I admire his work film. And I voted to be nominated for an Academy Award. I think Bradley is in charge of a new generation of actors. He began working in film, acting in a large number of comedies, and they were all fine. And I know people who start with comedies, and then become a great dramatic actors. But few have a real chance to change so much in the profession. Bradley appeared.
He’s a great guy. He can concentrate and focus on the job. I think he’s fanaticism refers to anything that would do, and never rests on its laurels. You can call him at midnight, and when you hear this: “I’ll call you in the morning.” He will talk to you. I never did, of course (laughs) I’m not that person. But he was a man – I know.
