Valentin Rasputin and died in a Moscow hospital, never came out of the coma. Valentin has not lived up to his birthday just a few hours. Today he would have turned 78 years old.

He was called a classic in his lifetime and conscience era – for the indomitable Siberian character, for what never deviated from the principles and infinitely loved native land. Recent years, the writer rarely appeared in public, but said the most important thing in my books, full of mercy, compassion and love.

Valentin Rasputin did not like to give interviews. All he wanted to say about life and about myself, it was written in his books, largely autobiographical. The first story, published in Irkutsk youth newspaper, “I forgot to ask Lesco” – a tragedy that unfolded in front of the student-philologist Rasputin: lumberjacks his boy friend Lesco fallen pine. Friends carried him fifty kilometers on foot to the hospital, but he died in their arms.

Rasputin always said that the writer makes his human childhood. Like the hero of the story “French Lessons”, a nine-year Valentina had to go to school for a hundred kilometers from the town where he was born – the village on the bank of the Angara Atamanki. Hunger forced the small Siberian gamble to at least occasionally buy yourself a cup of milk. And this feeling of postwar famine remained in my memory forever Valentin Rasputin.

Stories and novels Valentin Rasputin was read to the holes. “Vasily and Vasilisa”, “Farewell to the mothers,” “Live and Remember”. A screen adaptation of his work was doomed to success. And not only in the 70-80. Even in the XXI century avant-garde filmmakers found in the books of Rasputin’s most valuable: the love of a woman and love for his native land.

Friends said, perhaps, none of the writers are not fond of nature, among which he grew up as Valentin Rasputin. And not only in penetrating descriptions of Native open spaces, but also in the life of a writer desperately fought for the purity of Lake Baikal, opposed the construction of industrial plants on it. Not surprising that he was invited to participate in diving submersibles “Mir” at the bottom of a freshwater lake.

In his essays and articles in recent years Rasputin called each of the peoples of Russia, to return to its roots, to remember their culture, language, his homeland.

“The state and the country – it’s not quite the same thing. What state? This order, the order that exists today. And the country – that’s our whole millennial Russia”, – said Valentin Rasputin.

In recent years, Rasputin has often said that he was ashamed of those books that fills the shelves. He called such reading “funerary literature,” not worthy of Russian writers. In turn spiteful critics called Rasputin “rooted in the soil”, “village”. But this writer just proud. Today Valentin Rasputin – a recognized classic of Russian literature. The man, whose name is often associated with the word “conscience” in the broadest sense of the national.
