Do not become a remarkable writer, unbending man surprising humanist Valentin Rasputin, the one for whom it was a matter of life saving Baikal. Do not become a remarkable writer, unbending man surprising humanist Valentin Rasputin, the one for whom it was a matter of life saving Baikal. The one who was trying to reach out to the authorities, shouting in Soviet times in a loud voice – for the sake of the Bratsk hydroelectric destroyed villages and their inhabitants evicted by force from their homes, flooded forests, and it is – an ecological disaster.

This is scary so far – silent dark windows under water and fish – the only inhabitants of human dwellings. “Farewell to Matyora”, “Live and Remember”, “Angara”, “French Lessons” – this was his world. Simple favorite and least favorite Russian women, Siberian ordinary men – at the hearing may, sounds rude, but they – the real thing.

His prose called the village, he smiled in response: in the village – the root of life. And her killed. “In the Siberian taiga – my salvation. And it did Drowned, power taken away,” – said the writer. Today he would be 78 years.

Valentin Rasputin did not like to give interviews. All he wanted to say about life and about myself, it was written in his books, largely autobiographical. The first story, published in the youth newspaper Irkutsk – “I forgot to ask Lesco” – about the tragedy that has experienced the author himself. Back in his student years at logging on his friend the boy fell Lesco pine. Friends carried the wounded fifty kilometers on foot to the hospital, but he died on their hands.

Rasputin always said that the human writer makes his childhood. At the very Valentin it was heavy. In the nine years he, like the hero of his novel “French Lessons”, had to go to school for tens of kilometers from the village where he was born – the village on the bank of the Angara Atalanki. Hunger forced the small Siberian gamble to at least occasionally buy yourself a cup of milk. And this feeling of postwar famine remained in my memory forever Valentin Rasputin.

Works Valentin Rasputin enjoyed great popularity among readers. “Vasily and Vasilisa”, “Live and Remember”, “Farewell to the mothers.” This story about a village that flooded due to construction of power plants, and its residents relocated, has become one of the most important books of the writer. On the basis of Rasputin made films and staged plays. And the interest in the writer’s work lasted until the end of his days.

Friends said that, perhaps, none of the writers are not fond of nature, among which he grew up, as Valentin Rasputin. And not only in penetrating descriptions of Native open spaces, but also in life – a writer desperately fought for the purity of Lake Baikal, opposed the construction of industrial plants on it. No wonder that he was invited to participate in diving submersibles “Mir” at the bottom of a freshwater lake.

During perestroika Rasputin became actively involved in politics. Was a deputy of the USSR and even a member of the Presidential Council under Gorbachev. Opposed the liberal reforms. But later withdrew from politics and even once admitted that he remembers with shame what we do during this period.

“He fought for our traditional values, if we can talk about it. He just wanted to let more people conscientious, clean, light was next to us,” – says the chairman of the Writers’ Union of Russia Valery Ganichev.

In his essays and articles in recent years Rasputin called each of the peoples of Russia, to return to its roots. Remember their culture, language, his homeland.

“The state and the country – it’s not quite the same thing. What state? This order, the order that exists today. And the country – that’s our whole millennial Russia”, – he said.

The literature of the last decades Rasputin did not complain. Called her funeral and said that he was ashamed of such books. In turn, spiteful critics called Rasputin “rooted in the soil and the villagers.” But the writer is not at all offended. On the contrary, its closeness to the people he was proud.

“He lived his life anthrax. Maybe because it was the life of the righteous, and he avoided all this literary fuss. Very honest and uncompromising. In this sense, he did a lot for our Russian literature” – says writer Daniel Granik.

After a family tragedy – in 2006 in a plane crash killed daughter – Rasputin lived closed and did not communicate with journalists. Three years ago there was a wife.

During the life of Valentin Rasputin called a classic of Russian literature. The man, whose name is often associated with the word “conscience”. For the repose of the writer today during a service in Kaliningrad Patriarch Kirill offered a special prayer. He will be a funeral service on Wednesday Rasputin in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. A writer will be buried in Irkutsk, as he commanded, near the grave of his daughter.
