In Moscow, at the age of 83 years died writer and philosopher Yuri Mamleyev, has earned recognition for its deep philosophical and mystical prose.
He graduated from Moscow Institute of Forestry Mamleyev worked as a mathematics teacher at the school and a long time wrote in the table, however, gained fame in the narrow literary circles for his self-published stories.
His first novel, “Cranks”, written in 1966, could not find his publisher even abroad, where Mamleyev was in 1974. As one read the manuscript of the New York critics, “the world is not ready to read the novel, and I did not want to live in a world that would be willing to read the novel”.
In this book, where the heroes are “speaking” names – Sonnov, Padova, red armed, Barska Christopher – Mamleyev explores the nature of life, death, the knowable and the underworld. Critics have noted the influence of philosophically rich novels of Dostoevsky’s prose Mamleeva, Russian literary tradition in general and even the fantastic realism of Latin American literature.
While in exile, Mamleyev lived in the United States and France, and after the adjustment back to Russia already famous writer whose books were translated into many languages of the world.
In 1980, the novel “Cranks” in a highly abridged version and the English translation was first published in the United States, and in 2008 – in Russia.
Mamleyev is also the author of the novels “Moscow Gambit”, “Other”, “Peace and laughter”, “Alone with Russia” and philosophical work “The fate of life” and “eternal Russia”.
