The film of Andrei Konchalovsky’s “Paradise” came into the competition program of the 73rd International Film Festival in Venice. The picture was shot with the support of Ministry of Culture and TV channel “Russia 1″. It tells the story of people whose lives intersect during the Second World War.
In this story intertwined destinies Russian emigrant Olga (Julia Vysotsky), participated in the movement of the French Resistance, a French collaborator Jules (Philippe Duquesne) and German Helmut -. a high-ranking SS officer (Christian Klaus)
The main character of the film is under arrest, then falls into a concentration camp. Salvation: a German who once was hopelessly in love with a girl, invites her to escape. He promises to take her to South America, and Olga agrees, but the last time realizes that her idea of ”heaven”, which seems to be waiting for her there after all the hardships have changed.
The film is like trying connect the individual scenes scattered pieces of film. The basic idea of the picture can be expressed in words of the German philosopher Karl Jaspers: “We can not allow the horrors of the past were forgotten We must always be reminded of the past it was, it was possible, and this possibility is only knowledge can prevent it…”
The painting “Paradise” was the result of joint work of Russian and German filmmakers, which was conducted with the support of the European fund “Evrimazh” (Eurimages). The film was shot in three languages -. Russian, German and French
